We have been working with young people to help them to develop happy and kind hearts for over fifteen years. From leading SRE (scripture) classes and speaking at religion studies classes in schools, to conducting workshops all over NSW, to teaching mindfulness with Headspace and to the many awesome years we ran our wonderful old website: BYI4I - Buddhist Youth Initiative for Interconnectedness.

Our aim is to help young people be a force for good in the world. We use the secular teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is a big advocate for guiding young people with Secular Ethics. Under advice from His Holiness to not preach to young people, we are only aiming to give kids and teens a different perspective on how their mind works and how they can have happier, kinder more fulfilling lives while facing the challenges of the 21st century.

We use craft, games, stories, meditation, song, dance, drama, yoga, tai chi, colour and fun when working with younger kids. With teens we aim to offer paths to a greater understanding of themselves through meditation and dynamic, social workshops for their enjoyment.

Under the guidence of Venerable Thubten Tenzin, our youth liason, Venerable Thubten Choden is skilled in working with young people of all ages, she has qualifications in welfare and counselling and has many years of experience leading workshops, scripture classes and more.

For further information, to arrange a visit from our youth liason, organise a workshop or anything else, please contact us.
A Message to Young People from
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

"My generation belongs to the twentieth century; most of you young people here belong to the twenty-first century. The past is past. We can learn from it, but we can’t change it. However, the future is still open; it can be reshaped. I often point out that, despite the progress and innovation of the twentieth century, it was an era of violence and bloodshed during which 200 million died violently. You have the opportunity to build a more peaceful century. When you face conflict you need to resolve it through dialogue and compromise. To do this you need to respect others’ rights, views and humanity, considering them as brothers and sisters. You need to think of humanity as one family. Please do give this some thought."
